It takes a lot of practice to play this very fast song on this instrument and Mr. Childs appears to have practiced on his Euphonium a LOT. This instrument is a very close instrument to the Baritone!

A few weeks ago we saw and heard a very talented young man play the clarinet. The great thing is when you learn that instrument it's easy to learn this week's instrument. Oddly enough it's not as easy the other way around because of this thing called an 'octave key.' If you ever want to play both of these instruments someday, you'll see what I mean. Enjoy this lovely Saxophonist play the John Lennon song, "Imagine."
Welcome back from Spring Break! I hope you had a lovely time with friends, family and loved ones! This video is an all-time favorite. This performance is mislabeled a 'solo,' which means one person is playing by him/her-self. Do you know what it is called when there are TWO people performing?
These two high school boys delight their audience with a very clever medley (a group of songs strung together). We watched about half the video in class. What are some of the other songs they use for the 2nd half of the show? To what family does this instrument belong?
For those of you who can't get enough of music class and can't live without it over vacation, here is your BONUS instrument of the week. It's the Conductor's Baton. With it, the conductor plays the ensemble like one giant instrument comprised of many smaller ones. Victor Borge is a very special conductor in that he is also a musical comedian and likes to make his audiences laugh. ENJOY!
Mr. Borge is also a very accomplished pianist. Of course he adds some humor to those performances too. So here is another fun video:
All joking aside, Victor Borge can be a serious and very sensitive performer. Here he plays a very sweet and moving rendition of Claire de Lune
Many students have the opportunity to learn an instrument starting in 4th Grade. Mrs. Degenhardt didn't have that opportunity, and did not get to learn Violin until COLLEGE! But in high school, her music teacher was in need of alto clarinet players. And so as a High School Senior (12th Grader), she had to learn to play QUICKLY and catch up to her classmates who'd been playing for at least 8 years! She'll tell you the story in class. Here we have our instrument of the week, the clarinet, played by 11 year old Han Kim!
If you'd like to hear Han Kim playing with a full orchestra, click this link and enjoy!
