GET READY FOR YOUR FIRST WIND INSTRUMENT in 3rd Grade!
The Recorder is an awesome instrument which gets us super ready for reading notes and moving our fingers to match! This is a basic skill required when playing any instrument, especially for those you can play in 4th Grade for Band or Orchestra. Here is a video for you to appreciate how cool the soprano recorder can be. Here you'll see and hear from Left to Right, Sopranino, Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass Recorders:
WAIT! WHAT? THERE'S MORE?
We are happy to announce that every elementary school in Sachem will be given a full classroom set of UKELELE'S (pronounced Oo-kuh-leh-leh). These are easier to play than guitars because they are more suited for smaller hands, and have 4 strings instead of 6. We received these wonderful instruments in 2019 ushering in a new and exciting experience for 3rd graders, so buckle up! It's going to be a wonderful, magical, musical experience!

SIGNING UP TO PLAY AN INSTRUMENT in 4th Grade?
Wow! Be proud of yourself, that you want to embark on a fantastic journey in music. Learning an instrument is a great responsibility and can be lots of fun! A Soon-to-be 5th grader once said, "Now that I know how to play better, it's a lot more fun!"
Let's be honest. When we first play our new instrument, it's not going to sound pretty. But with careful attention and daily practice (about 10-15 min. a day) you'll be sounding like a pro in no time!
