As we close out the month of March - I thought I'd share with you 13 year old Trombone Shorty. Yes 13. And he is playing with a band led by Wynton Marsalis, a very famous trumpet player. Shorty is a grown up now, and has many CD's to his name. Maybe you too would like to play Trombone in your own band someday!
LEAVING A LEGACY:
Shorty has gained so much fame, he now uses it for the good of the community where he grew up. He created a foundation to raise money in order to continue the musical traditions in New Orleans. You can check out his website here:

Something you would never notice while she's playing is that Evelyn Glennie is deaf. It seemed like an odd request when as a small child she asked her parents to get her Xylophone lessons, but they found her a teacher just the same and her journey began. She plays barefoot so she can 'hear' or otherwise feel the vibrations of her instruments through the soles of her feet. She travels the world playing in concerts and teaching people how you can do anything in spite of your disabilities.
Here she is playing percussion with Oscar the Grouch on Sesame Street! Then she does a Xylophone and percussion duet with her friend. They communicate using sign language!! SO COOL!
This has to be one of my favorite videos with Mr. Pollak transforming a carrot into a clarinet, our instrument of the week. Below is a link of a girl playing 5 clarinets for the William Tell Overture! Ah the magic of technology!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKOUKtlwLEw Remember to wear a bit 'o the green as this week is St. Patrick's Day! AND HERE is a link to Linsey Pollak's instrumental inventions, made from everyday stuff from around the house. What can you make at your house? http://www.linseypollak.com/instruments/
This young man is playing the Trumpet for our instrument of the week this week. He is only a little bit taller than the instrument stands of the symphonic band accompanying him. Geoffrey Gallante has his own website and is a little more grown than he was in this video. ENJOY! http://www.geoffgallante.com/
